The Astronaut Cardiovascular Health and Risk Modification (Astro-CHARM) calculator is a clinical tool designed to estimate an individual's 10-year risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events, including heart attacks and strokes, based on a combination of traditional risk factors and coronary artery calcium (CAC) score results. This instrument is primarily intended for use in younger adults (ages 40-65) who have no prior history of ASCVD.

Developed utilizing data from three large, population-based cohorts—the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, the Dallas Heart Study, and the Prospective Army Coronary Calcium Project—the Astro-CHARM has demonstrated predictive validity and has been subsequently validated in an independent cohort from the Framingham Heart Study.

The Astro-CHARM calculator was created by Dr. Amit Khera, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance risk stratification through integrating traditional and imaging-based assessments.
